Esalen Massage

The name comes from a community/retreat centre, Esalen Institute, founded in 60s’, sitting on a cliff top in Big Sur, California. It is a place dedicated to exploration of human potential.

Over the years, various bodywork techniques (such as Swedish massage, Feldenkrais, Rolfing, Trager work etc.), meditation and movement practices from across the globe came together at Esalen, and evolved into a healing art called Esalen massage. Although each practitioner has unique style and qualities, there is a distinctive wave-like flow in every Esalen massage that encompasses the whole body. It’s not about fixing, but it’s about relaxing into the body and reclaiming and empowering the whole of who/what you are at this very moment.
